Steve Banta contributed to Coscend Communications Solutions during its incubation.  Prior to joining Coscend, he was a Regional President at Verizon Communications. In this corporate capacity, he led Verizon’s initiatives for wireline, wireless and enterprise lines of business in regard to state government and legislation, regulatory matters, public policy and corporate philanthropy.

During his corporate tenure, he has furthered corporate interests by:
  • Passing first ever statewide video franchising legislation in Texas eliminating the need for city by city approvals, greatly reducing market entry costs, increasing profits as well as improving speed to market. This set a national precedent and served as a model for reform in states across the country for the deployment of the fiber platform for cable TV and high speed Internet;
  • Led effort that successfully litigated a rate case in Washington state, greatly improving financial performance and retail and wholesale rate structures;
  • Achieved state regulatory approvals of $1.1 billion transaction to sell 500,000 access lines;
  • Realigned the commercial contract process for the Enterprise business unit, resulting in success that was emulated in other regions;  and
  • Developed and implemented a plan to address significant FCC changes to inter-carrier compensation at Verizon's erstwhile predecessor GTE Mobilnet including negotiating new carrier interconnection agreements which resulted in a material reduction in operating expense and that earned Mobilnet’s highest recognition award.
As an active leader in his community, his ongoing and prior leadership in numerous organizations includes:
  • Governor’s Business Council Executive Committee: Supporting the Texas Coalition for a Competitive Workforce, with goals to improve the educational attainment of the workforce in Texas;
  • Governor’s appointee to the Health and Human Long-Term Care Committee: Selected by Texas Governor in 2008 to serve on the Committee, representing the interests of large business employers throughout the state of Texas;
His ongoing and prior leadership in numerous organizations also includes Greater Dallas Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, Texas Association of Business, Executive Board of the Circle 10 Council of Boy Scouts of America, Dallas Citizens Council, Texas Telephone Association Board, North Texas Commission Board;  and President of Dallas Junior Wheelchair Mavericks basketball team Board of Directors.
He has been recognized for his leadership contributions by being:
  • Honored by the Dallas Black Chamber of Commerce as a Lifetime Member;
  • Selected by the Greater Dallas Indo-American Chamber of Commerce Award for Outstanding Community Service;
  • Honored by the US Pan Asian American Chamber of Commerce for Outstanding Contributions;  and
  • Honored by the Urban League Guild of Greater Dallas as a 21st Century Most Promising Leader.
